Most judicial appeals for property taxes in Texas result in a further reduction in assessed value. This table summarizes the number of lawsuits (for prior years) settled in 2004, the number which addressed unequal appraisal or excessive appraisal, the number which resulted in a reduction in assessed value, the percentage of accounts which resulted in a reduction in assessed value (number of accounts reduced as a percentage of the number accounts settled for prior years in 2004), legal fees paid to appraisal district attorneys, legal fees paid to appraisal district attorneys per accounts settled in 2004 and legal fees paid to property owner attorneys. Harris County Appraisal District had an above average level of lawsuits/judicial appeals. Data obtained from the Texas Comptroller.
